Eko Royal Lions Club continued its tradition of impactful community service with a successful execution of a 2-in-1 impact project titled “Green Health & Community Care” on Monday, July 14, 2025. The project, which served as the club’s second major activity for the 2025/2026 Lions Service Year, was held at Agunbiade Primary School, Shomolu, Lagos.
This initiative aligned with Lions Clubs International’s Global Service Focus on the Environment and Health, under the sub-theme: Healthy Earth; Healthy Lives Project. The event began at 10:00 a.m. with a warm reception by the school’s management. Club members and school representatives commenced the day with an inspection of the premises to assess infrastructural and environmental needs.
Key Highlights of the Project Included:
- Tree Planting and Environmental Beautification:
Tree seedlings including mango, avocado, and lemon were planted at strategic points around the school. The exercise, which involved active participation from both Lions and school representatives, aimed to beautify the school environment, improve air quality, and promote environmental sustainability. By encouraging young pupils to care for the trees, the project also served as a practical education in environmental stewardship.
- Free Medical Outreach to the Oguntolu-Shomolu Community:
In addition to environmental efforts, the club extended much-needed healthcare services to residents of the surrounding community. Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, as well as medications and general health advice. This intervention brought relief to many who might not otherwise have access to routine medical care.
Importance and Benefits of the Project include:
1) Contributed to the fight against climate change through tree planting
2) Provided practical health support to underserved residents
3) Created environmental awareness among school pupils
4) Enhanced the aesthetics and livability of the school grounds
5) Strengthened the presence of the Eko Royal Lions Club as a force for good within the local community
The Healthy Earth, Healthy Lives initiative was a clear demonstration of the Eko Royal Lions Club’s commitment to sustainable, life-enhancing service. By combining environmental care with healthcare outreach, the club addressed two critical community needs in one impactful project.
