In a strong show of commitment to service and advocacy, the Ikeja Metro Lions Club successfully carried out its September Childhood Cancer Awareness program at Oregun Primary Health Centre, Ikeja. The impactful outreach featured a health lecture, donations, and a walk for awareness, directly touching the lives of thousands within the Ikeja community.
The highlight of the program was an enlightening lecture by Dr. Tolu Taiwo, who spoke extensively on childhood cancer. He emphasized early detection, preventive measures, and the crucial role of community and family support systems. “Awareness is the first step toward saving lives,” Dr. Taiwo noted, urging the community to remain proactive in health checks and support for affected families.
To further their service impact, the Ikeja Metro Lions Club donated essential items to the Oregun Primary Health Centre. These contributions are expected to benefit more than 5,000 residents of the community, strengthening the center’s capacity to provide quality care.
Following the lecture and donations, members and guests participated in a spirited Walk for Awareness, engaging with the public, sharing informational materials, and sensitizing over 3,000 people on the importance of early detection and prevention of childhood cancer.
The project received wide publicity, with The Guardian and other national newspapers present to document and amplify its impact.
Present at the program were distinguished Lions leaders, including District Governor Lion Kemi Eribake MJF, NLCF, 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Phina Origho PMJF, NLCF, District Administrator Lion Adedeji Olukokun PMJF, NLCF, Lion Seyi Akinade Michael MJF, NLCF, and other notable Lions who lent their voices and presence to the cause.
Speaking on behalf of the club, Club President Lion Johnson Adetola Olaitan NLCF expressed gratitude to the partners, members, and community for their support: “This outreach is a testament to our commitment as Lions to fight childhood cancer through education, advocacy, and tangible support. Together, we can give hope and make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.”
The head of the center also commended the Ikeja Metro Lions Club for their proactive approach, adding: “Efforts like this bridge the gap between awareness and action. The Lions have once again demonstrated what community service should look like—impactful, inclusive, and focused on saving lives.”
The event not only created awareness and support for the fight against childhood cancer but also strengthened the resolve of the Ikeja Metro Lions Club and the wider Lions community to continue touching lives through service, advocacy, and compassion.
