In furtherance of Lions Clubs International’s global campaign on Pediatric Cancer Awareness, the Lagos Pacific Lions Club, District 404B2 Nigeria, carried out its third service activity for the month of September 2025/2026 Lions Service Year on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos.
Lions Clubs International had designated the month of September to emphasize the importance of pediatric cancer awareness and support. In alignment with this vision, Lions Clubs in District 404B2, Nigeria, joined in various impactful activities to support children battling cancer through awareness campaigns, donations, and acts of compassion.
On arrival at LUTH, members of Lagos Pacific Lions Club were warmly received by the hospital management, represented by the Oncology Department staff  Mrs. Janet Atere (Deputy Director, Nursing Services), Mrs. Bolatumi Agboluaje, and Chief Nursing Officer Mrs. Doris Benjamin.
The club hosted a pediatric cancer awareness session where young patients and their families were encouraged to remain hopeful and resilient. Prayers were also offered for their healing and recovery. Thereafter, members made cash donations to the patients, visiting them bed by bed to show love and support.
The highlight of the activity was the donation of essential clinical and consumable items to the Oncology Department. These included surgical gloves, face masks, cotton wool, syringes and needles, disinfectants, marking touches, underpads, thermometers, detergents, toiletries, and other hospital supplies.Through this impactful outreach, the club was able to touch the lives of about 30 patients and their families, bringing hope and relief to those affected by childhood cancer.

Similarly, the Club, in collaboration with Lagos New Emerald Lions club, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba Lagos, under the coordination of the Hospital Chaplaincy Department for a mental health awareness exercise. The delegation were warmly received by the hospital management and staff.

Discussions during the visit focused on mental health as a vital part of total well-being encompassing physical, spiritual, emotional, academic, career, and financial dimensions. It was emphasized that mental health challenges affect not only the patients but also their families and the larger community.
As part of the two club’s humanitarian gesture, both clubs donated a Bluetooth trolley speaker for the use of the hospital, provided food and drinks, and showed love and care to the patients and staff.  This act of humanitarian service brought smiles, encouragement, and a renewed sense of hope to everyone present. A key takeaway from the engagement was that true healing begins when we extend compassion to those who are emotionally or mentally distressed, as human empathy contributes to the collective wellness of our society at large.
The Lagos Pacific Lions Club through these activities reaffirmed its commitment to the Lions’ mission of service to humanity with the spirit of compassion and excellence.
