In fulfillment of one of Lions Clubs International’s Global Causes — Vision — the Lions Clubs of Ede Royal, Osun New Era, Osun Dynamic, and Igbajo Achievers joined forces on October 16, 2025, for a Joint Vision Project held at Ifetedo, Osun State.
Over 500 residents were screened for various eye and basic health conditions, more than 100 free eyeglasses were distributed, and several individuals received free medications. Cataract patients were also identified and scheduled for surgery in the coming days. The event emphasized the urgent need for accessible and affordable eye care, as preventable blindness continues to affect many Nigerians.
Speaking at the outreach, First Vice District Governor, Lion Oluomo Sunday Akere PMJF NLCF, noted that Lions Clubs worldwide dedicate the month of October to Vision Awareness. The outreach, which took place at the Palace of the Olubosin of Ifetedo, featured free eye screenings, medications, eyeglasses, and surgical interventions all at no cost to beneficiaries.
He highlighted that the Lions Clubs had established a $500,000 Eye Treatment Centre at Asubiaro General Hospital, Osogbo, to strengthen public healthcare delivery and ensure that rural residents have access to quality and affordable eye care.  “The government alone cannot meet all healthcare needs,” he said. “That’s why Lions Clubs continue to extend support through monthly medical outreaches across various local governments.”
The Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Oyetade Akinrera (Latiiri I), expressed profound appreciation to the Lions, describing the project as a lifeline for residents struggling with the cost of treatment.  “Many people here live with eye challenges but cannot afford hospital care. This intervention has brought relief and renewed hope,” the monarch stated.
The participating clubs also used the occasion to promote membership growth, inviting community members to join hands in service to humanity.
A heartfelt appreciation goes to His Royal Majesty, the Olubosin of Ifetedo, for his warm hospitality and encouragement.
