Lagos Elite Lions Club further affirmed its commitment to humanitarian service and preventive healthcare when it carried out a comprehensive Diabetes and Vital Signs Screening for residents of Chief Anthony Enahoro Estate Phase 2, Off Wemco Road, Ogba, Lagos, on 30th November. The well-planned outreach provided a strategic platform to serve the community while reaching a broad and diverse audience.
During the exercise, a total of 500 residents were screened for diabetes. In addition, participants benefited from vital health assessments, including blood pressure (BP) checks, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, and general wellness evaluations. Individuals whose results fell outside normal ranges were promptly counselled and guided on necessary next steps, such as lifestyle modifications and appropriate medical follow-up.
The initiative was particularly significant as diabetes is one of the key global focus areas of Lions International, reflecting the organization’s commitment to combating non-communicable diseases through awareness, prevention, and early detection. With diabetes on the rise globally and often undiagnosed until complications arise, Lagos Elite Lions Club’s intervention played a crucial role in helping residents understand their health status and take proactive steps toward healthier living.
Beyond screenings, the outreach increased awareness on diabetes prevention, healthy nutrition, regular exercise, and the importance of routine medical checks. By identifying individuals at risk, the activity contributed meaningfully to early intervention and long-term community health. It also strengthened trust and engagement between the residents of the estate and the Lagos Elite Lions Club.
Club members turned out in impressive numbers, demonstrating unity, teamwork, and a shared passion for service. Their collective dedication ensured the smooth execution of the program and further enhanced bonding within the club. The event also created opportunities for interaction with several intending Lions, opening doors for promising membership growth.
Speaking on behalf of the club, the Service Chairperson, Lion Joshua Nyam, emphasized that the activity aligned perfectly with the Lions’ mandate to serve humanity through impactful and sustainable interventions. He noted that preventive healthcare remains one of the most effective ways to save lives and reduce the burden of disease within communities.
In all, the diabetes screening exercise proved beneficial to both the community and the club, advancing the mission of service while expanding the club’s presence within the Ogba environment. Once again, Lagos Elite Lions Club distinguished itself by raising the bar of service, setting a commendable standard in community health outreach, and reaffirming the Lions’ enduring pledge to make a lasting difference one life, one community at a time.
