In a strong demonstration of humanitarian leadership and community service, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, successfully carried out a Mega Hunger Relief and Medical Outreach in the Oworonsoki community of Lagos State, reaching hundreds of vulnerable residents with food and essential health services.

The outreach, held at the Palace of the Oba of Oworo, featured the distribution of 350 bags of rice, ensuring that approximately 350 families had food on their tables. Beneficiaries also received free medical screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as part of the Club’s commitment to community wellness.

Speaking at the event, Lion James Ayoor Daves, NLCF, President of Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, said the initiative was a direct response to the growing economic pressures facing low-income households and aligned with the Lions’ commitment to practical, people-centred service.

“This initiative is about restoring dignity, easing hunger, and reminding our communities that they are not alone. Today’s outreach is the result of deliberate planning, sacrifice, and the generosity of our members, who gave willingly to ensure that real impact was made,” he stated.

Lion Daves further noted that donations from Club members helped bridge critical funding gaps and made it possible to deliver meaningful support to families most in need.

In her remarks, the District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 404B2, Nigeria, Lion Kemi Eribake, MJF, NLCF, commended the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for its leadership and consistency in service delivery. She described the outreach as a practical expression of the global Lions hunger relief agenda and encouraged beneficiaries to prioritise regular health checks as part of healthy living.

“This activity reflects the true spirit of Lionism, service beyond self. I commend the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for translating vision into action and for touching lives in a very tangible way,” she said.

Also addressing the gathering, the Service Chairperson and Charter President of the Club, Lion Franklin Udah, NLCF, MJF, applauded the collective commitment of members who contributed their time, resources, and expertise to the project. He emphasised that sustainable community development thrives when compassion is matched with collaboration and responsibility.

“What we see today is the power of unity. When Lions come together with purpose, communities benefit, and hope is restored,” he noted.

The outreach formed part of the Lions’ broader hunger relief and community wellness initiatives and attracted participation from Lion leaders, medical volunteers, and community representatives.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a community representative expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Lions Club, saying:

“Thank you very much for this gift. May the good God continue to remember you and your Lions Club for your good works. We pray that the Club will grow to the next level of impact, in Jesus’ name. We are truly grateful.”

The successful execution of the outreach underscores the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and reinforces its role as a catalyst for positive social impact across Lagos communities.
