As part of activities marking the 2025 World Diabetes Day, the Lagos Pacific Lions Club, District 404B2 Nigeria, carried out a comprehensive Diabetes Awareness Campaign on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Brown Street in Oshodi Market, Lagos. The outreach, which began at 10:00 a.m., aimed to educate the public on the growing impact of diabetes and the importance of early detection, prevention, and proper management.
Upon arrival, members of the club were warmly received by the Iyaloja of the market, Alhaja Ameedat Modupe Kayode, who welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for the club’s commitment to community health.
During the outreach, the club conducted an informative sensitization session on diabetes, its causes, warning signs, and preventive lifestyle choices. This was followed by free health screenings, including random blood sugar tests and blood pressure checks for traders and residents.
By the end of the exercise, over 100 members of the community had benefited from the services, receiving both medical checks and vital health information. Several individuals discovered abnormal readings and were advised to seek immediate medical follow-up, underscoring the importance of such interventions in preventing complications.
In addition to the health impact, the event sparked growing interest in humanitarian service. The club successfully registered five intending Lions, with two completing their local and international dues on the spot, an encouraging sign of increased community involvement in service activities.
Speaking after the event, representatives of the Lagos Pacific Lions Club highlighted that diabetes remains a major public health concern in Nigeria, often going undetected until serious complications arise. Initiatives like this awareness campaign are therefore crucial to early detection, lifestyle education, and long-term prevention.
The outreach reaffirmed the club’s commitment to humanitarian service and community wellbeing.
