In continued efforts to combat the rising prevalence of diabetes in local communities, Lagos Passionate Lions Club carried out a comprehensive Diabetes Awareness, Screening, and Health Talk activity at the Isheri-Oke Ayetoro Market, Magodo Phase 1, on November 20, 2025.
The event commenced at 9:30 a.m. with the Club members present, joined by representatives from Nonyez Ventures, who facilitated the medical screening exercises at the Club’s invitation. The session was formally declared open by the Chairperson, Lion Menwa Okeke.
Attendees received a detailed and enlightening health talk delivered by Lion Okiemute Jane Adenowo, who emphasized early detection, lifestyle modification, and consistent monitoring as key strategies in the prevention and management of diabetes, a condition that continues to affect millions across the country. Her presentation underscored the importance of community-led health interventions in improving public awareness and reducing the risks associated with late diagnosis.
The screening exercise recorded an impressive turnout, with over 70 market men and women taking part. Participants were tested for blood sugar levels and educated on how to interpret and respond to their results.
In a gesture of goodwill and sustainability, Lion Uche Obiazi donated a blood sugar monitoring machine to the market community, ensuring that traders could continue to check and manage their health beyond the one-day outreach.
Expressing heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the market community, Chief Mrs. Adegbesin Musiliat, the Assistant Head of Isheri-Oke Ayetoro Market, thanked the Lions Club for the visit, their unwavering support, and the compassion shown to the traders. She appealed for continued collaboration to promote better health and well-being within the community.
By extending this initiative to the grassroots, Lagos Passionate Lions Club reaffirmed its commitment to combating diabetes through awareness, early detection, and community empowerment, an intervention that remains crucial in saving lives and fostering healthier communities.
