Today, hunger has a face. It looks like a child trying to learn on an empty stomach. It looks like a parent skipping meals so their family can eat. It looks like a neighbor who smiles, even while quietly struggling.
In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion, Ikeja Metro Lions Club reached out to the Sisters in Deen Orphanage, located at Harmony Estate, 16b Harmony Drive, Ogba, Lagos, on 20th December 2025. The orphanage provides care and shelter for over 18 orphans and 24 widows, many of whom face daily challenges in accessing basic necessities.
During the visit, the club donated essential food items, including three bags of rice, four cartons of Golden Penny spaghetti, four 10kg bags of semolina, one bag of gari (cassava flakes), one bag of beans, a sealed 25-litre keg of vegetable oil, and one bag of salt. Beyond these tangible gifts, the Lions took time to interact with the children, offering words of encouragement and support that uplifted their spirits and strengthened their resolve to pursue their dreams.
The event was marked by deep emotion as club members witnessed the joy and gratitude of the orphans and widows, reinforcing the impact of community service. Through this gesture, Ikeja Metro Lions Club not only provided meals but also delivered a message of dignity, hope, and solidarity: you matter, and you are not alone.
The visit underscored the Lions’ commitment to alleviating hunger and nurturing the well-being of vulnerable members of society, setting an example of empathy, action, and community engagement that will resonate long after the day’s activities ended.
