Lagos Passionate Lions Club recently reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian service as it celebrated the Lions International Week of Service for Hunger Relief with a well-organized community outreach that brought hope and relief to residents of the Adeniyi Jones community in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The Hunger Relief activity, which took place at the D’Podium International Event Centre, Aromire Avenue, off Adeniyi Jones on the 16th of January 2026 saw members of the club distribute essential food items including rice, beans, and garri to over 100 individuals and families within the community. The initiative formed part of the club’s January service activities; a period globally recognized by Lions Clubs International as a dedicated month for relieving hunger among the less privileged.

Members of the Lagos Passionate Lions Club described the outreach as both an opportunity and a privilege to make a difference at such a critical time. They expressed gratitude to God for the success of the project and reiterated their commitment to touching lives through compassionate service. The exercise was carried out in the spirit of unity and love, core values that continue to define the club’s identity and service philosophy.

Speaking at the event, the President of Lagos Passionate Lions Club, Lion Uche Chigozie Okeke, emphasized the importance of showing love and support to vulnerable members of society, especially during the post-festive season. She noted that while December had come and gone, many families found January particularly difficult due to economic realities.

“December has ended, and it is back to work, but many people struggled even during December, let alone in January,” she said. “January comes with its own package of hardship, and in a country where things are difficult, we decided to show love, especially to the less privileged, by sharing food items with them. We know the items may not be enough, but at least they will go a little way in easing their burden.”

She further appealed to well-meaning individuals and those more privileged in society to support the needy, stressing that such periods were when acts of kindness were most impactful. According to her, giving not only brings relief to recipients but also lasting joy to those who give.

Also speaking at the event was the Chairperson of the January activity, Lion (Barr.) Helen Ifeoma Mbakwe, who was represented by Lion Ufua Eunice. She expressed deep appreciation to club members for their support and presence, as well as to members of the Adeniyi Jones community for their cooperation and large turnout.

“This project would not have been a success without the support of our members and the community,” she stated. “There is no amount of food that can ever be enough but putting smiles on the faces of over 100 people and relieving hunger, even if only for a short while, goes a very long way.”

The beneficiaries of the outreach expressed gratitude to the club for the timely intervention. Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs. Osunremi Fadekemi thanked Lagos Passionate Lions Club for their generosity, noting that the food items came at a critical moment.

“God will bless Lagos Passionate Lions Club for providing these gifts,” she said. “It came at the right time when December has ended and everywhere is dry. There is hunger in the land, but this club has put smiles on our faces. It shall be well with them.”

The Hunger Relief outreach further reinforced Lagos Passionate Lions Club’s dedication to impactful community service and its guiding principle of Real Service, committed to serve, as the club continues to live out its motto of serving with unity and love.
