The Bassa community of Airport Village came alive on Thursday, July 24, 2025, as Lagos Aviation Lions Club carried out a remarkable community service project focused on sanitation and the donation of cleaning supplies. The event drew a total of 30 dedicated members of the Aviation Lions Club, who worked side by side with residents to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
Arriving in the early hours of the morning, the Lions members were warmly received by community leaders and residents eager to join hands in the sanitation exercise. Streets and communal areas were swept, waste was properly collected, and drainage pathways were cleared to improve hygiene and reduce the risk of disease. To ensure sustainability, the Lions donated a variety of cleaning materials, including brooms, shovels, detergents, waste bins, and disinfectants, empowering the community to maintain a clean and healthy environment long after the event.
Speaking during the activity, the project coordinator emphasized the importance of the initiative: “A clean environment is the foundation of healthy living. Our aim is not only to clean today but to encourage the culture of sanitation as a way of life for every household in Bassa.” This effort aligns strongly with Lions Clubs International’s recognition of the environment as one of its five Global Causes, alongside vision, hunger, childhood cancer, and diabetes. Lions around the world understand that a healthy planet supports healthy communities, and environmental projects like this contribute to cleaner air, safe water, and better overall well-being for all.
For Lagos Aviation Lions Club, the decision to prioritize sanitation in Bassa stems from the understanding that cleanliness impacts not only public health but also the dignity and pride of residents. By tackling waste management and hygiene, the club helps reduce the spread of diseases and enhances the community’s quality of life. The day’s event was not only impactful but also deeply rewarding for participants. The atmosphere was filled with teamwork, laughter, and a shared sense of accomplishment. Residents expressed heartfelt appreciation, while Lions members left inspired to do even more.
The President of Lagos Aviation Lions Club; Capt. Chris Najomo, in his closing remarks, praised the collective effort: “Today, we have demonstrated the power of service. Our success is thanks to the dedication of our members, the cooperation of the community, and the unwavering leadership within our club. Together, we are building cleaner, healthier, and stronger communities.”
The Service Chairperson expressed gratitude to its leadership team for their vision, planning, and commitment in making the project a resounding success. The event stood as a testament to the Lions’ motto, “We Serve,” and reaffirmed the club’s resolve to continue uplifting communities through impactful service.
