The Children’s Day celebration organized by the Lion Services for Children Committee, District 404B2, was held on Tuesday, 27th May 2025, and was a remarkable success. The event commenced at 10:00 AM with the first phase at GRA Primary School, Inclusive Unit, Ogudu, where a well- equipped sensory unit was generously donated to support the special needs of the students. This meaningful gesture aimed at enhancing learning and development for children with sensory challenges.
The second phase of the celebration began at 11:00 AM at National College, where a vibrant Children’s Day party was held. Ten different schools from the surrounding communities were invited, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.  The children were inspired by three distinguished guest speakers who addressed important topics relevant to their development and wellbeing:
Drug Abuse Awareness
Self-Awareness and Personal Development
Mental Health Awareness
Among the notable speakers was Past District Governor (PDG) Kayode Oshinuga, whose impactful message left a lasting impression on the young audience. The celebration continued with dancing competitions, engaging games, and various fun-filled activities. There was plenty to eat and drink, ensuring that the children enjoyed a memorable and joyful experience.  The activity was ably coordinated by the Chairperson of the Lion Services for Children Committee, Lion Abiola Hotonou Bababunmi, MJF, NLCF, whose leadership contributed immensely to the event’s success.
Children’s Day celebrations like this play a vital role in nurturing the physical, emotional, and intellectual wellbeing of our future leaders. By combining fun with education and social awareness, such events foster self-confidence, build resilience, and encourage positive values in young minds. The inclusion of talks on drug abuse, mental health, and self-awareness is particularly crucial in today’s world, where children face numerous challenges. Furthermore, donating resources like a sensory unit demonstrates Lions’ commitment to inclusion and support for children with special needs. These efforts reflect the Lions’ enduring dedication to service, development, and community upliftment.
